The lesser of two evils
Out with the old and in with the new! It’s that time of year when the Summer* draws to a close and the likes of Argos get ready to fell more trees and encourage you to recycle their old catalogues. So I was ready to throw the Mothercare Spring Summer 2008 catalogue in the paper recycling receptacle, and I stumbled upon page 227. The image below may be offensive to some readers:
Low and behold, I was held aghast at the sheer pornography that was featured in this page. Next to the obligatory copy of the Kama Sutra that this radiant new mother had obviously referenced in the past** was a copy of “Americas Glorious Quilts”. I am shocked that such a publication can make it into the background of a family publication such a Mothercare’s catalogue. Who do they think they are?
I am concerned that some child upon reading age will see this, and become an habitual quilt user. Then where will it end? Prison? Or worse…the slums! Yes…very warm and covered in a patchwork of colours and shapes!
Act now. Boycott the old Mothercare catalogue. Write words like “disgusting”, “sordid” and “ghastly” in big red marker so that the recycling machine/man/woman can also share in your revulsion. For the sake of your children, please let no one else see this old catalogue and be affected the way I have been.
(If anyone is interested, a chap called Ronald Purmort is flogging one on Amazon for 17 bucks. Don’t tell anyone I knew about this…)
* If you can call The Hell From The Sky that was visited on South Wales this year a damned “summer”.
** The lady was breastfeeding after all. Babies come from somewhere so something had to have happened along the way… and naturally you need a manual totell you how. Don’t you?!
