Ponty Win the Cup!
The Sun shone on Sunday like never before. Pontypridd won the Konica Minolta Cup a mere 12 hours before and the day was turning into a beaut. And what a match! The passion and fire displayed by Pontypridd was something to behold, and the boys made certain that the extra space afforded to them by playing on a full size pitch was used to its fullest. I was great to see the likes of Chris Clayton chargin down long kicks and ripping the neath centres into touch to give Ponty the throw in. A move he did twice, and looked like he'd have nailed the poor bugger to the wall if he had moved back.
One of the fastest paced and thrilling examples of Rugby Union that I have seen in a long time, and one that would give Super 12s fans value for money. The worry is that the boys performed so well, that they may not be here next year. There will certainly be a clamour for them.
Pontypridd RFC were back on the big stage for a couple of hours, and they deserved every piece of plaudit and praise given to them. The quality was fantastic and now that many ex-supporters and ticket holders could see what has been going on at Sardis Road this season, I pray that we have a bumper ticket sale for next season.
Pontypridd wrap up the league with two more matches on Tuesday and Friday night (Ebbw Vale and Cardiff respectively), and two matches that Pontypridd should win, ensuring a solid Third Place in the Principality Premiership. Along with the extra cash form the WRU, Konica Cup and the 3rd Place, we might have some upgrades at Sardis, and some new sponsors too. Next season should be a beaut.
